On the day his wife died, this is what Teddy Roosevelt wrote in his diary

(CNN)On this day 133 years ago, former President Teddy Roosevelt wrote in his diary, “The light has gone out of my life.”

It was the day his wife Alice died. She was just 22 years old and died during childbirth, just hours after his mother’s death.
This photo from Roosevelt’s diary is found in the Library of Congress online, as part of The American Treasures of the Library of Congress, an exhibition featuring the “rarest, most interesting or significant items relating to America’s past.”
